COD MW4 Steam Preload & Unlock

Historical PC preload announcement, not a current download-progress service. Installation size can increase with updates.

Activision’s PC briefing scheduled MW4 PC preloading for October 15, 2026 at 9 AM PT for digital prepurchases. Its full PC release time is October 23 at midnight local time. On Steam, use Library → Call of Duty → Install; a completed preload alone does not open a mode before its access window.

Use the official PC schedule

The dated PC briefing gives October 15 at 9 AM PT as the PC preload start. This is the publisher’s PC statement; a third-party headline with a different preload date should not silently replace it.

Qualifying digital orders received the Campaign from October 16 and DMZ from October 20. The release schedule keeps those entitlements separate from the October 23 full release.

Find the install in Steam

  1. Open the owning Steam account

Launch Steam and sign into the account holding the qualifying MW4 purchase.

  2. Find the correct library entry

Open Library and select Call of Duty, as named in Activision’s installation instructions. Confirm your MW4 ownership rather than selecting the old Beta.

  3. Complete the install and required updates

Select Install, choose an eligible location with the required SSD space, and let installation and required updates finish. Playability still depends on the relevant access window and entitlement.

Storage and locked files

The release requirements list 115 GB available SSD space at launch and warn that mandatory updates can require more. A Beta-size estimate is not the installed size of the full release.

Steam’s supplied regional data shows October 22 without a precise unlock time zone. Do not use that label to override the official PC schedule. If the correct ownership and window match but Steam still cannot launch, use Steam or Activision’s supported assistance rather than changing regions or account links.
