COD MW4 Download & Store Activation
Official installation instructions for the 2026 release. This page does not offer game files or resold activation keys.
Install MW4 through the store account that owns it: Steam, Battle.net or the Xbox app on PC, or the corresponding console library. Activision’s Steam instructions use the “Call of Duty” library entry; Battle.net and Xbox name Modern Warfare 4. Downloaded files, a Beta install and an Activision login are not substitutes for the correct purchase entitlement.

Console downloads and disc installs
Xbox Series X|S: open My games & apps, See all, Full library, All owned games, then Modern Warfare 4 and Install all. On PS5, use Game Library, Your Collection, Modern Warfare 4 and Download.
For an eligible disc product, insert the disc in a compatible drive, finish installation and allow required updates. Switch 2 eShop preorders can download before launch but still require the launch update and internet connection described by support.
Keys and linked accounts
An activation key must match the store, product and region described by its issuer. These support instructions do not establish a universal cross-store key conversion process. If the key’s platform or region is wrong, resolve it with its issuer before entering it.
Linking a platform to an Activision account lets that account hold online progress; it does not transfer a Steam purchase into Battle.net ownership. The named exception is the qualifying Xbox Play Anywhere entitlement.
Confirm the correct installed content
Check the store’s owned-game entry and the installed MW4 content, then finish required updates before starting the mode you own. A Beta application and an encrypted preload can be present while the released mode remains unavailable.
If the purchase is present but the install is missing or fails, follow the linked official support article’s platform update instructions. Confirm storage and security requirements before repeating a large download.
