COD MW4 Vladimir Makarov

Spoilers for MWII and MWIII; MW4 coverage is limited to the official premise and documented casting.

The Makarov relevant to MW4 is the reboot-continuity Vladimir Makarov played by Julian Kostov. Activision’s story recap ties him to Konni, the stolen missiles and Soap’s death in MWIII, which helps explain Price’s off-the-books pursuit. This reference introduces that connection without revealing the later Campaign outcomes.

Use the reboot chronology

The official recap follows Modern Warfare (2019), Modern Warfare II (2022) and Modern Warfare III (2023). It connects Konni’s interception of American missiles with Makarov’s operations and the later confrontation with Task Force 141.

This is a different product sequence from the original Modern Warfare trilogy. An original-trilogy ending, performer or character fate cannot establish what happens to this Makarov.

Why Price is pursuing him

The publisher’s MWIII recap describes the bomb operation in London and Makarov killing Soap during the confrontation. It then describes Price assassinating Shepherd and going underground.

Those events support the revenge premise at the start of MW4. GameSpot’s Campaign review describes Price pursuing Makarov and people associated with him, while Variety retains Julian Kostov in the cast.

What current-game evidence establishes here

The official premise and casting establish Makarov’s role in Price’s pursuit. Coverage here stops at that setup; it does not import the original trilogy’s death scene into this reboot.

For a later relationship explicitly stated in MW4 dialogue, open the spoiler-marked Archer identity section. The story premise provides a spoiler-light return path instead.
