COD MW4 DMZ Traits & Operator Progression
Official launch-era Operator and Prestige rules. Prestige sacrifices specified gear and cash and resets normal Traits; read before confirming it.
Each MW4 DMZ Active Duty Operator earns their own Trait Points by leveling their Dog Tag, up to 18 points at Onyx III. Points are spent across Warfighter, Scout and Survivalist. The official guide says a chosen Trait is locked in and cannot be substituted. This is separate from your overall DMZ Player Level and weapon progression.
Earn points on the selected Operator
Successful exfils award DMZ XP that advances the active Operator’s Dog Tag. Each Dog Tag level grants a Trait Point; a strong deployment can advance more than one level. The progression runs through Steel, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Damascus and Onyx, each with three grades.
The Operator reaches its normal cap at Onyx III with 18 points. That is not the separate DMZ Player Level 1–70 track that unlocks FOB services.

Read the tree before committing
On a small screen, scroll the table sideways to read every column.
| Tree | Published examples | Selection structure |
|---|---|---|
| Warfighter | Quick Fix, Possum, Adrenaline Burst | Major branches and randomized Minor choices |
| Scout | Container Looter, Overwatch, UAV Upgrade | Select one offered Trait per reached branch |
| Survivalist | Faster Revive, Impact Smokes, Die Hard | A fully selected tree uses at most nine points |
Selection and recovery are not a free respec
Each tree has six Major and sixteen Minor Traits in the published pool. Access proceeds through branches, and the first point opens the initial random Minor option. The 18-point limit permits two full nine-choice trees or a spread across all three.
Once selected, a normal Trait cannot be substituted under the official rules. A lost Operator can be recovered with DMZ Cash while preserving their Traits, but returns without gear. That is recovery of the existing build, not a point refund.
Operator Prestige: what is retained and spent
After earning 18 points, an available non-MIA Operator can choose Prestige. The first Prestige requires the listed Rare-or-better weapons, Plate Carrier, Backpack and four Printer Ingredients, plus 200,000 DMZ Cash. The official guide warns to remove any gear you do not intend to sacrifice before confirming.
Prestige consumes the required gear and cash and resets the normal Traits, then grants a random permanent Prestige Trait. The second and third Prestige raise the equipment and cash conditions; the Operator can retain up to three permanent Prestige Traits.
Permanent Prestige Traits are tied to that Operator, including after changing skins or later slot assignment. Do not confuse these with ordinary Traits when deciding between recovery and dismissal. The FOB recovery explanation covers the MIA choice.
