COD MW4 Gunsmith & Attachments

Official launch systems and weapon briefings. These are documented configuration steps, without an unmeasured “best build” claim.

MW4’s Multiplayer Create-a-Class becomes available at Player Level 4. Select an available Primary or Pistol and use its Gunsmith to choose unlocked compatible attachments. Shared attachments only need to be unlocked once across supported weapons; Apex Attachments equip separately but can block ordinary attachment types. DMZ’s FOB Gunsmith opens at DMZ Player Level 10 and charges DMZ Cash.

Configure a Multiplayer weapon

  1. Unlock Create-a-Class

Reach Player Level 4 and choose an available Primary or Pistol in a custom loadout. A later weapon still requires its own published unlock condition.

  2. Open the weapon’s Gunsmith and inspect Progression

Read the weapon-level attachment track. Unlocking a Shared Attachment on one gun makes it available on other compatible guns; it does not remove compatibility rules.

  3. Choose compatible attachments for the intended role

Read the visible stat changes before applying a part. Gunny can offer close-range, balanced or long-range configurations from your unlocked options; a suggestion does not bypass a locked attachment.

  4. Check the Apex restrictions if you equip one

Apex Attachments unlock by fully leveling supported weapons and do not consume an ordinary attachment slot. Read the blocked categories before assuming your existing barrel, optic or magazine can stay.

  5. Compare in the Firing Range

Use the range’s 10, 25, 50 and 100 metre targets to compare handling, recoil control and visibility at the distances you intend to fight. Save a change only after checking it against the prior configuration.

Choose a goal, then inspect its tradeoffs

For a closer fighting role, compare the displayed handling and mobility effects instead of simply selecting the highest damage label. For longer shots, compare aim stability, recoil and target visibility at the appropriate range. These are practical comparison criteria, not our measured weapon results.

The M4 Hurricane example shows why an Apex conversion is a meaningful branch: it changes the weapon’s role and blocks Barrel and Magazine Attachments. Another weapon’s Apex has different exclusions.

DMZ costs and unlocks are separate

At DMZ Player Level 10, the FOB Gunsmith sells supported weapons and their attachment configuration using DMZ Cash. Buying slots and attachments adds to the cost of a gun you can lose on deployment. The official guide describes five purchased Gunsmith attachment slots, while field weapons can have up to eight.

Extract Weapon Manuals to add permanent purchase access for their weapon type. A carried weapon is not the same unlock. The Blueprint’s free initial DMZ instance is also not an unlimited free replacement after death. Review your actual purchase total before confirming.

Leveling again changes availability

Weapon Prestige is a separate reset from Operator Prestige. Read the current weapon progression conditions and retained Blueprint/Apex exceptions before confirming a reset; do not assume that a normal attachment configuration survives every prestige action.

The camouflage progression reference distinguishes weapon-level and mode-specific challenge progress. Gunsmith appearance options are not evidence of a damage increase.
